PSR Digital Handshake: Meet Ted Kern!
Name: Ted Kern
Known Nicknames: TK
Neighbourhood of Residence: Port Credit
Previous Professional Life: It’s always been real estate; but I was a commercial realtor prior to selling condos, lofts and houses.
Getting To Know Ted in Ten Questions:
- What made you decide to get into real estate?
When you know, you know. After I finished University and did some traveling, it was the only career possibility that truly excited me.
- Where would we find you on a Friday night in Toronto?
Out to dinner with my wife and/or friends; somewhere we haven’t been before.
- Most embarrassing real-estate moment:
Once upon a time I was showing a land-value home just after dusk and the electrical service was shut off (so it was dark both in and around the property). Unbeknownst to me, the curb stop valve was sticking out of the driveway unusually high (that’s the hexagon shaped water valve). As I was backing out, it caught underneath my front bumper and ripped it clean off the car right in front of the client. True story. I laugh now thinking about it; but it wasn’t very funny at the time.
- Who stands out to you / do you most admire in the business world right now?
Donald Trump. No just kidding. I would say my good friend, Brad Woodgate. He’s the strongest example I have close to me of someone who defines relentlessness in business and a person who is always two steps ahead. I also admire Bill Simmons, CEO at The Ringer for the path he’s carved in the media world; doing it his own way and always having a pulse on what is relevant.
- What is the career philosophy / mantra / inspirational quote that gets you through tougher days?
“Do or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda
“Do Your Job.” – Bill Belichick
… but most of all…
“Don’t get stuck in the highs or lows; stay right in the middle, work hard and good things will happen.” – Myself
- What is your theme song?
Eye Of The Tiger; ever since I watched Rocky 3 when I was seven.
- Describe your dream home in three words.
Open-concept. Craftsman. Wood burning fireplace.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
5 years older and still doing what I love.
- When you’re not wheeling + dealing real estate, what can we find you doing?
Skiing at Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood (winter), playing baseball (summer) or creating fun new memories with my stunning wife of 11 years and our two remarkable children.
- Highlight of 2019 so far:
Embracing the digital age upon this industry and continuing to grow and adapt; both personally and professionally.
