As long as Mother Nature cooperates, April showers (slash snow squalls) should bring along some much-needed May patio weather. With so many sun-drenched options in Toronto to choose from, here is a round up of where you should reserve your spot when the weather warms up and the clock strikes 5 on King West.
1. GUSTO 101 / 501
Three words: Dollar. Ounce. Wine. If you need any other reason to bask in the sun on a boozy afternoon, this two-level patio has both ground level and second-storey patio options. Don’t count on walking in and grabbing a seat though – this is one of King West’s most popular spots and they do not take reservations, so best get there early for max sun exposure and table availability. Psst – if you already love Gusto 101, look out for Gusto 501 opening mid-2016 at 501 King St East. www.gusto501.com
2. MACHO TEX MEX RADIO BAR
Remember Citta in Cityplace? We don’t either, because Ink Entertainment has gone out with the old and in with the new, opening Macho Radio Bar in April 2016 and reinventing the space previously inhabited by Citta. With a fun and relaxed atmosphere, a Tex-Mex inspired menu, killer patio, and rad vintage arcade games, this will be a surefire hot spot après Jay’s games on sunny afternoons all summer long. www.machoradiobar.com
3. BELFAST LOVE PUBLIC HOUSE
Operated by one of Vancouver’s largest hospitality groups (Donnelly Group) Belfast Love opens May 2016, taking over the space formally occupied by Zoe’s at 548 King St. W. This U.K.-style public house featuring elevated pub food, sports + TVs, will seat 390 people inside and out on it’s mega-patio, bordering King St West and the laneway leading into Fashion House. Not only does this patio get sun all afternoo n long, but the beer selection will highlight local craft breweries, with potential offerings including Blood Brothers Brewing, Kensington Brewing Company and Collingwood Brewery. We’re not sure what the interiors will look like quite yet (they’ve been completely overhauled by the Junction’s Mason Studios) but here’s a shot of one their West Coast outposts for inspiration. www.donnellygroup.ca/belfast-love.
4. THOMPSON RESIDENCES / ROOFTOP INFINITY POOL AREA
You’ve seen the construction process of the brand new Thompson Residences at 629 King St. W over the last few years, but the building occupying and rumour has it that the much anticipated rooftop lounge / infinity pool facility will be open as soon as June/July 2016. No word yet on whether or not the sky-high lounge and longest rooftop pool in North America will be a private amenity for residents or if it will be open to the public. Either way, this rooftop pool and lounge is guaranteed to be THE spot to be to see and be seen catching some rays in style. www.thompsonresidences.com.
